Walk
Walk on, walk onLeave it behind, you’ve got to leave it behindAll that you fashionAll that you makeAll that you buildAll that you breakAll that you measureAll that you feelAll this you can leave behind....
Such is the power of these words sung by Bono of U2 in this awesome song, that they put you at peace instantly. A quick excavation into the realms of my mind brought out interesting results related to the idea of walking.
All of us agree that life is a summation of many events and of many different emotions and a lot of other things as well. Although it is not the case every time but there are situations or events in life from which you would be forced to walk out of. Although that might not be the case all of the time, there will be situations wherein the only best alternative or solution is to walk away and look towards a more brighter tomorrow. However, more importantly, I would like to draw the attention to the emotions or feelings which one experiences in one’s lifetime.
There are times when we lose our near & dear ones to death.
There are times when we have failed at something and have been left heartbroken.
There are times when our close loved ones betray us and leave us in shambles.
There are times when you feel destiny has played a wrong card to you.
There are times when you feel nothing is right in your life.
These situations have one thing in common, all of them are full of despair and depression. The key over here, is not to stand still but to keep walking and keep moving forward. This is where your legs come into use because no matter what life or destiny throws at you, you’ve got to keep walking. Sometimes, you don’t even need physical legs, you just need the mental stamina, courage and determination to walk out of a situation/emotion.
Since I’ve been a science student throughout, the point that I’m trying to make can be explained with the help of an extension of the First Law of Thermodynamics.
It is what I would call, the First Law of Emotionomics. This can be explained using the following equation:
dU = del Q – del W
Here,
del Q denotes ‘amount of emotions added to an individual as a result of a process or event or mishap‘
del W denotes ‘amount of energy lost by the individual due to the work done/stress taken‘
dU denotes ‘change in the internal balance of the individual‘
In this equation, we cannot let the quantity del W become greater than del Q. Otherwise we would have a negative sign in the overall right hand side of the equation. That means, the internal balance of the individual goes into negative, a total lapse of the mind, body & soul.
While here we can know the amount of internal balance possessed by an individual, we cannot know how much emotions have flowed into the individual or how much energy the individual has lost as a result of the stress generated.
Simply put, we can say that emotions can neither be created nor be destroyed, they can only be converted from one type of emotion to another type.
All this means that we need to cultivate the habit of walking, not only physically but mentally & spiritually. Walk away from all the negative emotions which plague our lives from time to time, in order move towards the larger goals for which we have been sent on this Planet Earth.
